The five-year (10 semesters) program at Debrecen has been carefully structured and designed to ensure a high standard of knowledge, skills and responsibility of dental surgeons.

During the 1st year a thorough understanding of the basic medical sciences such as Biophysics, Biochemistry and Genetics is gained and in the second year the program broadens to encompass Anatomy, Histology, Physiology and Behavioural Sciences in topics, which are relevant to the practice of Dentistry. Even in the first and second years, special dental subjects (Odontology, Preventive Dentistry, Dental Materials and Technics) are taught.

In the third year, disciplines exploring the theoretical foundations of diseases, such as Pathology, Pathophysiology and Microbiology are taught with aspects related to Oral Sciences. In the same year Propedeutics of Clinical Dentistry introduces various dental procedures and techniques involved in the clinical treatment of patients by laboratory demonstrations and in the phantom headroom.

In the 4th year, students begin to treat patients in the Clinical Practice Unit and other special clinical departments. They are introduced to all clinical dental fields (Restorative Dentistry, Prosthetic Dentistry, Periodontology, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Paedodontics and Orthodontics). During the 4th and 5th years students take responsibility for treating their own patients in small-group practice classes under the close supervision of staff members.

Parallel to the dental courses, other clinical medical sciences are also included within the curriculum.

By the end of the 5th year dental students are required to submit and defend a thesis and take a final examination.

Students having passed all examinations and having successfully defended their theses are granted a D.M.D. degree.

TUITION FEES

The tuition fee for the 1st year of the Dentistry Program is 17500 USD if the total yearly tuition fee is paid in one instalment before registration to the first semester..

The tuition fee can be paid in two instalments: 10,000 USD is due before registration in September and 8,500 USD has to be paid before registration to the second semester in February (totally 17 500 USD). Material cost: in addition to the tuition fee 2 200 USD yearly (or 1200 USD/semester) material cost must be paid from the 3rd year on that is due before registration to the semester.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

International students can apply for a place in the Erasmus mobility program. From the second spent year in the University (BMC year excluded), excellent students may apply for a scholarship that may reach 20% of the tuition fee.

The Registrar’s Office will automatically forward the results of the students who achieved a stipend index of 4.50 or higher in the previous semester to the Committee. There is no need for the students to submit any application for the tuition fee reduction. It is the student’s responsibility to check the grade average of his/her closed semester before the registration period.
